There are 2 angled V sections that need to be wrapped around your phone to attach it to the clip mechanism. The problem is that they are too wide for normal smartphones. In order to keep the phone securely in the clamp, you actually have to tighten the screw. Just make those V-shaped areas 4mm narrower and they'll hold the phone that much better! Since it doesn't hold the phone very well I gave it 3 stars for durability. In other aspects, the clamp screw is enough to put a lot of force on the clamp. There are 2 screws and 2 sets of guide rods for smaller and larger phones. This allows the clamping mechanism to be used for a variety of mobile devices. Because of this, I'm giving it 5 stars for its versatility. The usability could be a little better. There's nothing that keeps the jaws apart. The screw just closes them but does nothing to keep them open. As a result, they flap around until you pinch them on your phone. Having 2 springs on each guide rod solves this problem as the jaws stay open until the screw compresses the springs. It's more of a trifle than anything else. This clip is designed to hold the phone, but there is a 1/2 inch gap behind the phone before you have the clip mechanism. This gap can be significantly reduced and the holder can be made significantly more compact. I will probably redo this mount significantly. so that it holds my phone better and is more compact. I'm going to make the front edge much lower so it doesn't get in the way of seeing the screen. I would change 3 things about this phone clip: 1. Added springs guide 2. Make the V-grooves narrower to hold the phone better. 3. Make the front of the V-grooves deeper so they don't obstruct the view of the LCD.
