The DOSS SoundBox is a small portable speaker that can be connected via Bluetooth or a 3.5mm line-in jack (audio jack included). It includes a MicroSD slot (max 32GB) which is a fantastic feature as it allows the device to work as a standalone music player. The device also works as a speakerphone when paired with a mobile phone. The SoundBox has an elegant design with a smooth matte finish and a fingerprint-resistant top panel. The body is wrapped in an attractive 360Β° aluminum grille. The SoundBox feels solid and well built. On the top are touch controls for playback, mode, and call controls. They glow white when the device is on. The center ring is a volume slider that can be controlled by swiping the ring clockwise to increase volume and counterclockwise to decrease volume. A beep indicates the maximum volume. The backlit volume control serves as a mode indicator: blue for Bluetooth, green for MicroSD and red for line-in. The rear of the case houses the power button, line-in jack, microSD slot, and micro-USB charging port (micro-USB charging cable included). The charge indicator is a tiny, hard-to-see LED under the micro-USB connector that glows red while charging and turns green when fully charged. The size and lack of noticeable distortion even at maximum volume. Bluetooth pairing is easy and reconnecting is quick. The range is above average and I haven't had any issues with dropping or losing connection. The speakerphone works well, automatically pausing playback when a call comes in and delivering clear caller audio. I've been told it sounds good on the outbound side too. By default, the device will automatically turn off after 15 minutes of inactivity, but you can contact DOSS support for a firmware update to disable auto-off for use with something like the Echo Dot, which has the loudspeaker should remain switched on. I ran two battery life tests with a 10-hour battery playing from a microSD card. During these tests, the volume was at the highest level. The SoundBox is a very powerful portable speaker that looks and sounds good. The incorporation of a microSD slot is a big plus. It certainly comes at a good price. *Customers should ensure the indicator light is bright and always on. * For DOSS: It would be nice to use the volume ring as a charge indicator. Can flash red while charging and turn off when fully charged? It would be a lot better to see than the tiny LED on the back. It would also be a nice addition to have an app that allows users to customize settings like auto-off, button backlighting, and shuffle.
