Out of production. The resolution is only 720 x 480 compared to newer HD camcorders that are 1920 x 1080. Compared to newer models, this camcorder is overpriced without built-in memory. For a similarly priced HD camcorder, you get higher resolution. After purchasing the basic camcorder, you can purchase an external charger, memory card, mini DVD, detachable grip with mini tripod, and battery with more storage (NP-FV100) so you can film longer. This increases the acquisition costs. Thankfully, Sony does a great job of answering questions about accessory compatibility. If you look at the sale price from third parties, you cannot get back the original price if you decide to sell. It loses value. I recommend buying Sony HD camcorders that are currently in production and checking the resale value. would accept the flagship model. As compensation for the acceptance of the model showcase, I received a warranty extension to 5 years after the manufacturer's warranty expired after 1 year. All new HD camcorders are fun, easy to use, and cost about the same. The DCR-DVD650 comes with a remote control RT-835 which is not compatible with this camcorder. So the seller mixed up the accessories. The model was delivered without software or user manual. You need to download them from Sony website. Also, the battery for the remote control was dead on arrival and I won't be able to use it until I order it from Revain. Since the DCR-DVD650 didn't come with a memory card or discs, you can't use it right away. You must purchase a memory card compatible with the device and/or several mini DVDs to burn. You cannot transfer movies to a computer via USB until you become familiar with the application software, which is only available on the Sony website. This is what you get for the high price you paid.
