This speaker is quite suitable for indoor use and I personally find it more than loud enough for that purpose. But in the car? My car is quiet but not very soundproof. In the city I hear higher pitched, tinny, grinding noises when driving. Out of town on the freeway. At max volume I can't hear ANYTHING except for some louder and higher pitched percussion which is really really loud at max volume. I tried it with different devices, I tried both Bluetooth and an extra cable. The purpose of this speaker was to have it in the car and double as an emergency flashlight. I have many home speakers with the best sound. I won't be returning it though, I live in a tornado prone area and it's a good emergency flashlight to plug into a phone or weather radio. I gave five stars for battery life because it's been a few days and I haven't had to charge. Of course, it remains to be seen whether the battery will still hold a charge after months or years.
