Works better than expected. The sticky backing is very strong and doesn't move at all. Be careful with placement before sticking it, otherwise you won't be able to move it! It's honestly a compliment to the strength and stickiness of the product, but you've been warned ;) The pen loop is thick and holds my pen without slipping or moving, but can also make it stiff. This means I sometimes have to undo the top of the loop to get the handle through, but once it's in I'm not worried about it falling out. I've been using it in my daily journal for about 1 month or more and the loop edges are starting to warp/fray with use. It's not a problem for me (unless she gets weak enough to not hold the pen) - I'm not sure if that will happen in the near future or not. The only thing I'm unsure about having a pen loop in there for when it's time to put the book down and put it away because I can't get it off without tearing the inside spine of the book (except for possibly loose thread on the loop to remove it). If you aren't worried about wanting to adjust/remove the strap once you're done with this I would recommend buying this set as since using it I haven't felt the need to go out and look for anything else .
