Replacing the valve cover gasket on the 4.2 is NOT a quick thing! It's not a 4-bolt valve cover on a Chevy 350 like it used to be, so be prepared if you're working on your own car. There is a specific procedure that needs to be followed and a few YouTube videos. If you are fast you can do it in 4-5 hours. If, like me, you get everything perfectly clean and draw what I photograph, then those are the days. Not to mention all those things you do "while it's already disassembled" like spark plugs and feather dusters, cleaning the throttle body, etc. Do yourself a favor and make sure the mating surfaces are clean and free of anything and each are . Trash, old gasket material, oil or whatever, or you're doing a lot of work for nothing. Valve cover bolt torque is 89 in-lbs. Yes, that's right folks, I said INCH POUNDS, NOT POUND POUNDS! If you don't want to pull out broken bolts in the head and crush the gasket to death, I recommend checking the spec and using the correct torque wrench. The seal is high quality and fits perfectly. The bushings fit well too, replacing my old dry, rotten and cracked ones that came loose in pieces. I'm looking forward to the next tune when my spark plugs aren't drowning in oil because a bad gasket is causing misfires. The last remark I started this review with. It's not a quick job. You MUST remove the intake manifold to access all the valve cover bolts. If you didn't already know, you can order your own gaskets for these and another for the throttle body. There is a kit here that includes both. Have fun with the last screw on the intake bulkhead. You need a 10mm swivel head and extension to get it out, it's a pain! Incidentally, they also have 89 inch-pounds of torque. You will also need a fuel line disconnect tool to get one of the lines out of the way. Now is a good time to swap out the thermostat (housing and thermostat in one housing) and temp sensor if needed, as you have access to anything that gets in your way.
