Review on ๐Ÿ”ง ACDelco GM OE 15-11073 Engine Coolant Thermostat Housing Assembly by Jojo Howell

Revainrating 5 out of 5

Factory thermostat (ACDelco made in Mexico), great price, easy repair.

As per Sparky's review, I bought this thermostat for my 2005 Colorado (4 cylinder) which seemed to have a low coolant temperature during normal operation. The thermostat was original and the truck has about 160,000 miles on the clock and the heater seems to take a long time to warm up in winter. Sometimes I would get error PO128 (Coolant taking too long to heat up) and the coolant temp would fluctuate around 160-170 F at the 1/4 mark on the temp gauge (I leave the scan gauge plugged in). The swap keeps the coolant at around 198-200 degrees, just over half the gauge of what should be a normal operating temperature. Without a new truck I don't know what the original "normal" operating temp was and the truck seemed to run fine at 165 except for PO128. I read that shortly after 2005, GM changed the "normal" operating temperature from lower to higher to reduce emissions and increase fuel economy per gallon. The thermostat comes with an o-ring as shown in the photo, there are no other gaskets or seals. necessary. The R&R for this and both radiator hoses took a couple of hours because I wasn't in a hurry. To access it, simply remove the left front wheel and fender. It would be better if the radiator had a drain, but removing the bottom hose from the radiator will help. Do not attempt to remove the hose from the old sensor, simply loosen the screws and remove the hose and sensor together. Some hoses have a white line to align the hose with the top wing of the stat to keep the hose in the correct position, the hose I received with this stat doesn't have this. Installing the new hose on the stat in the correct position was a little tricky, but due to the correct position of the bolt holes on the stat, they lined up exactly with the mounting holes in the motor (the hose is single-sided, and its position is important). - New stat to hose, stat to motor, hose to wheel. Ready). For a detailed R&R with photos, go to the 355 Nations website (GM frame code for this truck is 355), tech section; How can you do that; performance and service.
