Review on Ingersoll Rand 315G Straight Sander: Unleashing Superior Sanding Performance by Mike Modesto

Revainrating 4 out of 5

Great tool, consumables could be a little easier to replace.

I like this guy. I've always wanted one, but didn't pull the trigger until recently. I have always used 4 1/2" flap wheels and 2" roller wheels for prepping and working metals. While they've served me well, this device actually offers some features that others don't. The flexibility of the disc, combined with its high rotation speed, makes it a leader in fast and controlled metal removal, whether in metalworking or surface preparation. The discs don't last as long, but honestly that's more of a plus than a minus because the grinding performance is more consistent in the end. This device appears to be extremely durable and runs very smoothly. It feels like it should last a lifetime. If I had an opportunity to improve, it would be how to record discs. The nut (if you can call it that) needs to be loosened with a fork tool while using the rod to keep the spindle from turning. While this isn't difficult, it's not easy to do quickly either. As you rotate consumables more frequently on this tool, it quickly becomes something you think could be a little easier.

Pros
