This is a very attractive set that adds a nice festive spirit without being overbearing. Each candle has a timer on/off button at the bottom. The timer is spot on: on for 6 hours, then off for 18, but it's been six hours since I turned it on, so I set an alarm to remind me to turn it on when the sun goes down. Stock up batteries. 9 batteries to make them work. I didn't have enough to run all three because I don't keep that many batteries anymore. Haven't used it long enough to know how long it lasts on a set of batteries. But it's so dirty! With the slightest touch, not only does the "sugar” come loose, but pieces of green stalks also come out. And that comes straight out of the packaging/box. Until you touch each candle to insert the batteries and then place them on the tree, you have "sugar" all over the place. "Sugar" is big, like salt in a pretzel. Once you have them where you want them and have the timer on, I would recommend that you don't touch them until the season is over.
