This is a little gem which we thoroughly enjoyed. It's not for reading or adding light, it's just a cool thing that will make you happy. It spins all day, but it takes a touch to get it spinning again about once a day. It makes a slight grinding noise when its magnetic attraction is emphasized, and it disappears once the magnetic orbit is back on track. Ours works day and night and part of that is "fine-tuning" the magnetic field. It's plastic and you see it and you think it's so cheeky, but when it's done and you look at it from across the room it never looks cheap.
