Review on Pyramid Silicone Molds for Jewelry Casting: Durable 1-Piece Design with Plastic Stand Base for DIY Crafts by Wendy Rodriguez

Perfect shape super size. Be patient and work in multiple shifts!

I was looking for a very large prism to cast a very complicated orgonite memorial for my father who passed away a few years ago. At last I was ready to overcome all-consuming sorrow and honor his memory, and this form met all the requirements. It was the absolutely HUGE size I was looking for, with a stabilizing solid base shell to make casting and installation so much easier. You obviously have to pour it in layers to be successful. I recommend doing a test run if you've never cast a solid piece that deep, rather than starting something as important as, say, a monument. I'm glad I did. This gave me the opportunity to iron out the flaws of how I wanted to put so many layers on such a complex work. For example, I sealed some sharp edges to round them off and pre-filled some details in my design that I believe helped prevent bubbles from getting in. However, layering actually helped create a complex scene successfully. A pressurized pot would have made the whole experience a lot less jittery, to be sure. But who needs a pan when you've got patients? Ha. I would post pictures but I don't feel like it. I'll update if I drop anything less personal, just to be sure. The mold pours and pops nicely and the sides come out super shiny. The sides of the mold can be thin enough to roll back when demoulding due to the hard shell you are pouring. Can't ask for more.

Pros
  • Plastic Base: Comes with 1 plastic base that holds the silicone in place until the resin dries, effectively preventing the pyramid from deforming during the casting process.
Cons
  • Not sure
