I am very upset with my heating pad. It only took me 5.5 months! My mother has had a heating pad for a number of years with no problems. I never washed it, although it's allowed I always kept it horizontal so it wouldn't kink in the heating elements. I've been using it for less than 5-6 months of owning it. I liked how soft it is and how quickly it heats up, but one night I turned it on and the lights on the remote were blinking and it didn't get hot. I thought it might have lost connection so I disconnected and reconnected all connections but no such luck. The lights are still flickering and the heating pad has become a soft pillow. I'm disappointed, I enjoyed it while it lasted.
