We bought 2 of these as wheel bearing checking tools to ensure each of the north/south magnetic poles on the integrated wheel bearing which is also the speed sensor ring for the ABS system is good from packaging and shipping damage. As soon as you put foil on one of these bearings, the magnetic sections in the seal just noticeably pop out and you can tell if any of the tiny magnetic poles are damaged or fine before you start pressing the bearing into the hub assembly. It's a shame we weren't aware of these very inexpensive tools a few years ago, as ABS type stock systems only require a damaged magnetic pole to hold a fault indicator or warning light on the dash. Without the foil showing the magnetic poles the seals look fine to the naked eye and you would never know that the bearing might have had a little damage to the seal prior to installation.
