These shoes are heavier than other brands such as Skechers children's shoes. On rough and muddy paths, however, they do a very good job as hiking shoes. Because the shoe isn't as flexible, we had to go up a size to ensure a comfortable fit. Children's feet grow so fast that I didn't want to spend too much money on shoes that I wear several times a year. So these shoes fit perfectly. I wouldn't force my daughter to wear these for everyday use as these shoes are heavier and don't offer good bounce.
