I've been an active iPod/iPhone user since the iPod came out. Mainly because of the ease of managing music and playlists with iTunes. Now I have found what I was missing. Music on this device sounds incredibly cool. And with the high gain option, I can crank it up as loud as I want. I like the operating system in the device. It's incredibly easy to use and has a very short learning curve. Within an hour or so I was skillfully controlling the player. Music is incredibly detailed in Sony's balanced headphones, and I'm hearing things I've missed in compressed AAC and MP3, and my ears are a lot older. solidly built and a bit heavy. It feels good in my hand. But more importantly, he looks good. I can see the quality built into it, right down to the leather backing. I get a lot of compliments on this player. I've bought HD content from 192 FLAC to DSD 11.2 and the player handles it with ease. I immediately attached the wrist strap as dropping this baby would be a disaster. Nice that it's there. Battery life is decent considering I leave the screen on for long intervals and play at fairly high volume with the high gain and tone controls enabled. , treble) or an adjustable 10-band equalizer. There are also some nice indicators that can be displayed instead of the album art. There are also a few different settings that affect sound output, but I disabled them. There is a setting to simulate the sound of vinyl on a turntable but I can't hear any difference. The control buttons are a little tricky to use with one hand, but all the controls you need can be operated directly from the screen. I love the bookmarking feature as I can create playlists on the go while navigating through the music on my device and then convert the bookmarked lists into actual playlists. I had no problems viewing albums in the library as I made sure all 10,000 of my files were properly tagged with . The only problem with this is that this device is finicky when it comes to album covers. I use it with a 512GB card and there are no problems with it. I used about 350GB on the card. I just noticed a couple of minor things, but not important enough to deduct stars from my rating: 1) A tricky issue with album art - cover art files are in plain JPG format 2) The database is updated with every USB Connection restored disconnected or the device is switched on. I changed the shutdown time to 12 hours to fix the problem. Build times are faster with the latest firmware update, but still a little long. 3) There is no real synchronization between the library software and the player. The software shows the tracks and playlists that are in your library and not on your device and lets you transfer those items. However, if you remove items in the library, you must manually remove them from the player and vice versa. 4) You need to know where you are copying the files to. Internal storage and SD card storage are treated separately. When a playlist created on a computer is copied to internal storage or SD storage, all music files must be in that location. Otherwise duplicate files will be copied to this location. Haven't used the USB DAC feature yet so can't comment on that, but it's good that it's there. other Walkman devices. This doesn't detract from my user experience with the actual player, but the software is in dire need of improvement, mainly in regards to playlists. This is an entirely manual process that requires time and patience. True Device Sync might also help. I understand most people just use drag and drop, but I like to have an organized library. I am very happy with this amazing DAP!
