Review on Anodized Black Bendable Craft Wire For Jewelry And Halloween Crafts - BENECREAT 18 Gauge Aluminum Wire, 492FT by Andrea Jackson

Not as rigid as copper artistic wire

I got the 15g after reading reviews here about size and rigidness. I am using these for face masks, but I have used jewelry wire before to make jewelry and other crafts. This aluminum wire is very soft. In comparison to the 18 gauge copper wire from Beadalon that I have been using before this, the 15g aluminum wire is much softer even though it is 50% thicker than the copper wire. I tried to "harden" the aluminum wire by pounding on it with a hammer against a flat iron surface and it helped get it hardened just a little bit more, but I've read there is only so much harder aluminum can get. The 15g is not too bad after the hardening. Even without the hardening process, the wire does keep its shape if you bend it, but gentle pull will also straighten it out more. I may go for 12g after this, but it might be too thick. I would not go for higher than 15g for masks.it would be no better than using a twisty-tie from bread. I can see this would be great for manipulating curls and dense coils as a decorative item that is not handled a lot. I can't imagine using it on anything that might have weight pulled on it (like earrings or pendants).

Pros
  • Beautiful color and great durability.
Cons
  • The wire is easily dented
