An improvement over unnamed cameras

The build quality of the camera is much better than most other brands of IP cameras sold at Revain. It's a good weight without being heavy, feels solid and runs smoothly. I've had it recently so can't speak to longevity just yet, but I'm optimistic for now. This camera has three levels of video transmission quality and maintains signal integrity better than most other cameras I've used. tries to. I installed it on my 2.4GHz band and it can reliably transmit/receive 100 feet and a few walls from my router. Unlike many other third-party brands sold here, Reolink encrypts its cameras so you can't easily spy or hack anyone in the world. As others have stated in their reviews, setup can be tricky if you don't follow the writing's instructions. I would suggest setting up a Reolink account (in addition to downloading the app) BEFORE attempting any setup. This makes the process easier. Please understand that this Reolink does not work well with some VPNs. If you use your VPN frequently, you may need to pause it to complete camera setup and/or view it live on the Reolink app. During the installation process you need to set your phone to the same band/network that you want to connect the camera to. I like the 2.4GHz band for its extra range. I believe this camera uses the 80211-n protocol and if you have an 80211-ac or ax router this can slow down your router if you decide to use the 5GHz band. The band is 2.4GHz and I can assure you that you do NOT need to be on the same network to view the camera once the installation is complete. The application itself can sometimes be difficult to navigate due to multiple submenus. The app's controls use a virtual D-Pad for PTZ and aren't as fast as the swipe controls in other apps. Inexplicably, the microSD slot and single-hole reset button aren't accessible unless the camera is pointing all the way up. If you are having trouble setting up this camera, the reset button will not be visible (and the instructions may prompt you to reset the camera WITHOUT clearly indicating where the reset is). By the way, there is a hole just below the lens and status indicator. This is a microphone hole with no markings. If you confuse this hole with the reset hole further back on the ball, you could accidentally insert the reset tool into the microphone and damage the camera's microphone. Please do not ask how I discovered this particular fact. BENEFITS: Excellent customizable image Good resolution 3x optical zoom Smooth Motion (PTZ) Optically adjustable focus (manual and automatic) can be useful when looking through a shielded window Encrypted secure communication Compatible with 2.4 and 5 GHz range, stable signal at 2.4 GHz , good night vision, (IR can be turned off when installing a window) CONS: The application is not intuitive and has an inconvenient user interface. Setup can be difficult with poor or vague instructions. Slot (difficult to reach and poorly described in the instructions)
