The switch from H11 -> H9 to 4Runner 2018 is a complete success!

IMPORTANT: I do not advise anyone to change their transport or safety equipment. It may be illegal in your area. I share my personal experiences with others for educational and entertainment purposes ONLY. Also, I never said anyone should hug porcupines and you better not say I did or I will come to your house and perform all my critiques in front of your family with a passionate interpretive dance, the 3D glasses may or may not contain. . Now we come to the assessment. I just installed these to replace my Philips Xtreme Vision (reported +100% visible lux compared to standard long life halogen), h11 55w, installed in my 2018 4Runner. I've had them for a year and they have vastly improved the stock Osram LL bulbs in both brightness and the way the pattern was cast onto the road. Took about a year as expected, although I still had trouble telling if my low beams were on, if there was any other light stronger than the 3/4 moon. Enter Hella h9 Standard 65w. They have been recommended over several other h9 bulbs, even the 'more powerful' Hellas. Why? They're made in South Korea, not China, and when tested with a light meter (according to the unmistakable internet), these bulbs put out significantly more light than the stock (for 2013-2020 4Runner) h11 bulbs, while producing the same light to keep. Draw, but with better saturation and color. As a result, it can be safely installed in my halogen projectors without disturbing other road users or dazzling them dangerously (yes, I and countless others have tested this - sometimes with the right light meter!). Also, multiple sources claim that these bulbs are rated at 250 hours, as opposed to the 150 hours that many h11 bulbs have (including my previous Philips XV). In comparison, the extremely weak Osram h11 bulbs (55 W, Germany) have an estimated lifespan of 1000 hours. but that's both optimistic and assuming you don't fall into something and destroy those bulbs beforehand due to the lack of light. My Philips XV bulbs have lasted a little longer than advertised if my rough guess is correct. Modifying these bulbs was MUCH more PITA than I thought on the internet and I really bled to make my car safer. but I'm so glad I did! Light pattern, brightness and color are ALL improved again now that I have this Hella h9 installed. quite a big improvement. Compared to the Philips XV +100, this Hella Standard h9 is a BIG improvement. I can now see when the light is on and the color is a bright, natural daylight color (best for really seeing things, eye strain and less glare from moisture reflections and shiny signs). If it lasts a year I'll be happy. Note: I bought and used the short lamp adapter recommended on the Yota forums. no worries. It's not going to be plug and play because while changing the plastic tab on the harness adapter saves me from having to cut out that plastic from future bulbs, it will NOT fix the problem (obvious now, yeah lol). The metal alignment tabs are different for H9 and H11 bulbs. The adapter also adds bulk behind the dust caps, which are pressed against the back of the lamp, adding more points of failure for no use. I'll probably have to keep a tiny pair of scissors on board until Toyota has a sale of OEM LED headlight assemblies and that's assuming they fit my 5th gen and don't suck once they come out. TLDR; better than standard, better than h11s if your car has halogen PROJECTOR body.

Pros
  • Light output is 100% higher than standard incandescent bulbs for the best light output, giving performance-oriented drivers extra time on the road for safety and comfort.
Cons
  • A small change
