The fabric isn't that soft, but I am sure it would soften up over time. I ordered both a Med and a Large to decide which one was best. Medium fit best (with room) and I returned the large which seemed really bit. BUT then I washed it and it was much smaller, I was very disappointed. There is a note in the package with clever wording that basically said to expect it to shrink, but it really wasn't clear. All this said, they are nice enough, but go for a bigger size. (Update: I am 5'7 about 150)UPDATE 2 WEEKS LATER: I tried the MED on again, and the pants actually fit well, it is the top that shrunk, and mostly in the arms. The wrist bands were tight, so I cut a slit up the side, and now I can wear the top also. I won't buy another pair, but at least I can wear these.
