I have used these for my support poles in my basement. They work as advertised with some limitations. Firstly there are 4 parts in the kit which should be enough seems, and it is if you use a thick enough material on top I've used 3/4 pine boards but anything thinner or weaker and I'd be concerned about strength ) or bottom bracket to some other surface, to keep everything from revolving around the stand. The brackets move freely and rotate without it on the support.Plus they really helped with my project and were affordable. My I-beam and support posts were a little years ago crooked and framing would have been a problem, that went relatively quickly My advice to newbies they are 5" wide so cut your boards to 5" plus the dic ke the wood you are using (in my case the pine boards were cut 5 3/4 wide) and just chase the pole like a jigsaw puzzle. I had to do some sanding and such but it was better than caulking and oiling the drywall, looks better and will be more durable in the long run.
