It's true that the Wii doesn't require a Wii branded SD card, so you can save money by buying a non-Wii branded card. However, one benefit of this particular card is that it works with my Epson PictureMate printer where newer SD cards (especially higher capacity, high speed cards) do not. So I actually have a non-Wii card in my Wii and I use that card to transfer pictures to my Epson PictureMate. Not only can PictureMate not read the high-speed 8GB card I use with my digital camera, it also can't read any of the newer SD cards I've bought from Staples to transfer photos to. So the older format of this card and the ability to keep using my PictureMate are worth the extra cost.
