Review on Retekess Shortwave Portable Transistor Batteries by Kory Shelton

Revainrating 5 out of 5

A clever mix of old and new technology

I bought this radio for my husband and had him checked on my behalf. Review by George Nagy: General Observations: 1. The size of the radio is 8.25 x 5.25 x 2.50 inches. 2. The radio has analog tuning for AM, FM and SW. 3. Three D batteries or a power cord provide power. 4. Long antenna is convenient for FM and SW tuning. 5. The digital display only works for MP3 players. Positive features: 1. Large speaker delivers excellent sound (3W) 2. Stations are tuned in by turning the tuning knob. Many stations arrive except SW. Reception on SW depends on the time of day and the location of the radio. 3. The operation is so simple, that hardly any operating instructions are needed. 4. MP3 sound is excellent. I like that the radio has an input for TF, SD and USB. It leads from the old analogue world of radio to the digital world. 5. The compact size makes the radio ideal for travel or outdoor use, although three D-type batteries add weight. 6. Radio is a godsend for the elderly, used to analog tuning and simple design. Features Not Found: 1. The radio has no clock and no sleep timer. 2. The MP3 screen shows the song number and elapsed time, but not the song or album name. 3. Radios sound clear, but are annoying when the radio is near a computer or other electronic device. Overall impression: I have a collection of over 50 radios from the 1960's. I chose the TR618 for its easy-to-use features and powerful sound for everyday use. This radio replaced my huge tape recorder from the 1980's which used cassettes. A 32GB SD card can play as many songs as hundreds of my old tapes or CDs. Many thanks to my wife who bought me this radio.
