I tried a pair of $8.50 gloves at Walmart and for a few dollars more this is a really good set of gloves. My kids were fine in about an hour and a half in 14 degree weather. What really sets these gloves apart is the water resistance. On a 35 degree wet, snowy day, the gloves stayed fairly dry for over an hour. Cheap gloves often got wet in 10-15 minutes. In the past I've bought a pair of cheap gloves and swapped them out, but it's cheaper to buy a set and they work much better. Very happy with these gloves. UPDATE: Taking off a star because the stitching came apart about a month after receiving it. I sewed it back on and the gloves are still strong (my kids are pretty tough on them) but reduced to 4 stars due to a torn finger. I also wanted to add that I think the size was right and fit both my 10 and 12 year olds.
