Save yourself the heartache and wait, if you have 17" don't buy this item. It is much smaller and shorter than the measurements in the photo. The title also states that it fits 17 inches and doesn't. Your 17-inch monitor hangs on the back where it matters most (the weight of the laptop base and battery is on the last 2 inches), and those 2 inches hang off the end of this stand. It takes a powerful nudge or an accidental bump and your laptop is on the floor. This item is great for 15 inches and under - and I highly recommend it if you buy it for it. Just don't do it for 17", which was the only reason I made the original purchase.
