Review on Enhance Performance with PUCKY Carburetor for Harley Davidson Road King Twin Cam 40mm CV40 XL883 XL1200 Carb by Eric Webb

Revainrating 4 out of 5

This carburetor is almost equal to the standard HD CV carburetor.

I used this carburetor to get back to normal work. The previous owner installed a Mikuni carburetor and I didn't care. My Pucky had a 45 pilot jet and a 185 main jet. The main jet was fine, but since I use a V&H exhaust with silent baffles and an S&S air filter, I had to increase the pilot jet to a 50 if you know how to do it . My HD works great now. The 45 pilot jet is fairly common on many HDs tuned for first stage performance. It just wasn't right for me so I bumped it up to 50 and it made a big difference. If your HD needs to be throttled to keep going when you let off the gas and/or stutters when starting, consider increasing the pilot size. I am very puzzled why there is no overflow pipe in the float chamber on this carburettor. I wish the seller would have explained that. This can be a problem if the float gets stuck and gas gets into the carburetor and into the cylinders or before the air filter. As for me, I always turn off the fuel tank tap when I'm not using it. It's just a habit I've had since the previous owner removed the vacuum tank valve and it's too expensive to replace.
