Review on ๐Ÿ”ง ACDelco GM 251-719 Engine Water Pump with Gaskets - Original Equipment by Matthew Maggot

Perfect fit for my 1996 Chevy C1500 truck

As always with ACDelco OEM parts this is a very well built water pump. Yes, it costs a lot more than the $50 Chinese pump, but this pump should last over 100,000 miles. There is no saving on the water pump. If the water pump fails and you don't notice it and you stop your car, you can damage your engine by overheating in minutes. If you own a GM vehicle, always use ACDelco OEM (Original Equipment Manufacturer) parts. If an OEM part is not available, please purchase an ACDelco Professional Series part. In fact, my truck now runs a few degrees cooler than the old pump did when it was new. The old pump was not an ACDelco and only had 65,000 miles on it. Very solidly built. Very quiet pump. Perfect fit for my 1996 Chevy C1500 truck. If you have no experience with vehicles, you have to expect that the exchange will take more than two hours. No special tools are required. Be sure to clean the surface of the engine where the gasket meets the engine to remove any traces of the old gasket, then clean with a solvent such as brake cleaner. Wait a bit for everything to dry. Also, don't forget a tube of RTV water pump sealant (Revain style 22071). Rub just enough to just cover the gasket on both sides, push against the pump, and then push the pump against the motor. This creates a stronger seal than the gasket itself. Also, new pump bolts with thread sealant are a good $10 insurance policy. My truck uses a Dorman 902-804. One more thing, if your system is drained, it's time to replace the hoses if they're old (ACDelco about $40 for both). If the thermostat is old, a new ACDelco will cost around $10-$15. Old radiator caps can leak, about $10 for an ACDelco radiator cap.
