I love the softness and comfort of the hat and beard. Halloween costume beards tend to be overly shiny, look fake, be uncomfortable and are soft and comfortable as you would expect from an item like this. The yarn used is very soft and stretchy, which makes the hat comfortable. I received the color V-Brown and as shown in the picture it is actually maroon which is what we were hoping for, although the color is mislabeled (brown). To use just the beard (which we'll do since the cozy beanie didn't fit my son's fancy dress helmet), we tied an elastic hair tie to each end of the beard loops and plan to just pull them over the ears and around the back. heads. Only the beard loop on the ears hurt when worn for a long time. Photos of the helm were purchased separately and this beard coupled with this would make a fantastic Viking costume for him. After Halloween we plan to tie the beard back into the included knitted viking hat (see second picture to see how the buttons are sewn in so you can tie the beard to it) and he will have this thin, understated winter hat. ;)
