Note. I've only had this monitor for a few days but since no one has written a review I thought I'd give my first thoughts, considering HP is not known for their customer support so I hope I do. will not be punished. chance with them. So keep in mind that this is a review based on less than a week. My setup: I mostly use my MacPro with a standard 256MB graphics card. I connected it to the DVI connector. I also have a Dell computer and connected it to the VGA port to test OSX and Vista (Business). However, my primary computer is a MacPro, so I'll leave the details to the Vista specialist, but I'll give you my initial reaction. I needed a big, nice monitor without a matte finish, and in my experience the HP W2408 was better than the others. . The W2408 is very similar to the W2207 with a glossy screen and a pivoting screen that is a must for me. The rotation function is well implemented, although with such a large screen in portrait mode, there is not much you can do with the screen. The W2408 is similar to the W2207 but 2 inches taller (a monster, but a cute monster) and has a higher resolution. Before I continue, let me clear up some of the misinformation that has been floating around in the W2207 reviews and I hope it won't be here. I repeat, the box contains DVI, VGA and USB cables. So if you don't have these, you have been scammed. For Mac users, yes, I repeat yes, you can rotate the screen as long as your Mac is at least three years old. The downside is that the software/drivers are for Windows and not Mac. However, it doesn't matter. Macs have their own drivers and I was up and running in five minutes. Small changes have been made to the "Settings" and the HP OSD. On the Windows side, I installed the software and was pleasantly surprised that I had the latest version. Installing on Vista was easy and uneventful. The only downside is that the auto rotate/rotate software didn't work as it didn't work on some HP 2208 models. My Vista computer with an ATI card can assign a hotkey to rotate the screen, so it doesn't really work important for me. For a Mac, you'll have to go to settings and then click to rotate, but I also enabled the display icon to make it easier to switch from landscape to portrait. Well, the good part is where I might seem less objective. The screen is beautiful! It blows others out of the tub, IMO. The colors are so vibrant that it is a joy to watch. The photos are closer to reality and the DVD movies look almost like HD. Since it is and has HD resolution. HDCP for future expansions with Blu-ray and HD-DVD. It's just a beautiful screen that looks better than what Apple currently offers and is a lot cheaper. Weaknesses can be linked to strengths. It's best to look straight ahead, but the viewing angles aren't that bad. In bright sunlight you can have a reflection but I can't get over it. It also has an ambient light sensor that helps. Overall I give it 4 1/2 stars (most likely 5) as it should have more Mac software (but still ok) and the Vista software doesn't work perfectly but is good enough. The price is reasonable and should come later. Should you get 2207 instead of 2408 instead? It's $200 cheaper. This is a close decision. With the 2407 you get a big screen and trust me you can live with a 24 inch screen. It also has a higher native resolution which I can tell compared to the 2207. I would say it's a litter. If you're looking to save money, I think you'll like the W2207 almost as much. I spent the extra money so my Photoshop CS3 would have plenty of room.
