Review on Sangean PR-D4W Portable Weather Alert Radio with AM/FM Bandwidth Narrowing and Auto Tracking for Improved Searchability by Pete Norris

Good quality radio for AM and FM

I bought the PR-D4W based on several reviews I looked at and read that said the AM - and FM reception was excellent and I found this information correct. Another important factor is the build quality and the quality here is very good. The buttons feel solid, the whip antenna is solid, the display is great, and it feels like a quality radio. The price was also good for what you get. I've done several AM and FM DX sessions with him and really enjoy how well he works, especially on AM. The noise level is quite low, which makes it possible to hear really weak stations clearly even at maximum volume. The sound quality is good for a radio of this size, but not outstanding. The lack of bass and treble controls limits its sonic capabilities, but it's a pleasure to listen to both music and talk shows and is more than adequate for what I use it for. certainly helps keep this radio at such an attractive price point. I want the frequency display to be always on. Because this radio always returns to the time after 10 or 15 seconds of displaying the frequency. I would also like a tuning knob and not just a toggle switch for changing stations, although the tuning knob works very well. It would also be nice to be able to block the display's backlight, especially when listening to the radio at night. Whatever it is, it only stays on for about 10 seconds and then turns off again with no further adjustments. But the bottom line is I really like this radio and use it all the time now. Big performance in an attractive compact form at a great price.
