We have a very young student and distance learning is difficult so I try to keep all parts as simple as possible. One of the issues we had was that Google Meet has absolutely terrible controls. The control bar isn't dockable, so it disappears (which isn't great for a classroom), and sometimes it comes back when you hover over other participants, and sometimes you have to click somewhere for it to appear. I saw that you can mute/unmute with a keyboard shortcut, which prompted me to search for a product I was hoping existed. I wanted a single input device that could be programmed with a keyboard macro, but most importantly it needed to store the programming on the device and didn't need any software running since it would be used on a Chromebook. THIS is the product. I wanted it to be able to press a single button to turn the sound on and then press it again to turn the sound off. This makes muting SATISFYING rather than tiring, resulting in a better classroom environment. It's very easy to program it on a Windows computer and then connect it to my kid's Chromebook. He got used to it almost immediately. One caveat, it's not the device's fault at all: our school-provided Chromebook was too locked to work with the button. You just don't recognize him. But I tried it on two other Chromebooks and they worked great right away. If you have a kid who is learning remotely, get them this thing. Or if you just want to turn off the sound in work meetings, this is for you!
