Received this along with an adapter https://smile.amazon.com/gp/product/B000FJZYR0 for filling hot tubs. I press a (somewhat stiff) garden hose against the tub's lid, and this float valve shuts off the water at whatever depth I set. I wouldn't use a super flexible hose for this purpose - it can rise with the water level. The fill rate is less than a hose alone, but I don't have to keep an eye on it to keep it from overflowing. Set it and forget it as they say. Go to the store, get your hair cut, mow the lawn.
