I had to climb trees higher than normal step accumulators would allow and came across this product. The side rails on my Werner aluminum extension ladder are 1/2 inch wider than the new V-Bar setting allows and I had to change the setup. First I used the supplied pre-drilled plates as a template for the new bracket I needed and drilled holes perpendicular to the top of the side rails and parallel to the end cap of the stair guard. Second, I assembled a new V rung (left to left, right to right) and found that the angle set was pointing towards the bottom of the stair, not at an upward angle. All you have to do is tilt the whole assembly from side to side and now the angle is right. - Rung assembly and stair railing to compensate for the large width of my stair rungs. Also, the mounting bolts had to be replaced with 1-inch #10 stainless steel and nylock nuts. This morning I was in 4 trees with a ladder 14 feet off the ground and the ladder was very stable. Note that I also tied the ladder to the tree with a small weight strap 3 feet from the top of the ladder for security.
