Daisy chaining only duplicates, not extends, and ASUS support doesn't know anything.

To simplify my desk connections and reduce clutter, I was looking for a pair of monitors with an integrated USB-C dock that supports laptop and DP-Alt charging via a USB-C cable, as well as an MST with DP-Out daisy chain with a second monitor. Thanks to these properties, the connection is very simple and clean. A USB-C cable between the laptop and the first monitor covers both display output and laptop charging, and a DP cable between the first and second monitor extends the display to the second monitor and of course the power cables to both monitors. And that's it! Before trying the ASUS PA248CNV, I first tried a pair of BenQ GW2485TC monitors and this setup worked great as described above. I liked it until I realized it would be nice if the monitors also included a built-in USB hub to connect my camera and other peripherals. Otherwise I would have to put additional cables into the laptop. Unfortunately, BenQ monitors did not offer this. Then I saw the ASUS PA248CNV which seemed to have all of the above including a built in USB hub so I ordered two of these ASUS monitors and planned on returning the BenQ monitors. Unfortunately, I've found that daisy chaining on ASUS monitors does NOT extend the display to the second monitor, it just duplicates it so you see the same image on both monitors! When daisy-chaining two BenQ monitors, Windows sees them as two separate displays, but when daisy-chaining two ASUS monitors, Windows sees them as just one display. I used the same laptop and cables as the BenQ monitors, so they're not the problem. Then I remembered that on BenQ monitors I had to go into the OSD menu on the first monitor and enable MST to extend the display on the second monitor, so I searched for the ASUS OSD but couldn't find such an option . . Actually there is nothing in the OSD about MST or serial connection. I also downloaded the manual for the monitor and read it cover to cover but couldn't find anything there either. Eventually I called ASUS Support but the support rep knew absolutely nothing about this product feature and wanted to reach out to someone higher up who would respond to me in at least 2 business days. So I'm going to the UPS store to return these monitors! For the premium price of these monitors, this was a big disappointment. I expected more and better support! If ASUS ever responds to me with a solution I'll update this review, but for now it seems daisy chaining doesn't really work on ASUS monitors unless you want to duplicate the same image on both displays.

Pros
  • 75Hz refresh rate and Adaptive-Sync (48~75Hz) for animated content with fast action and anti-tearing
Cons
  • Bad contrast
