Review on ASUS ROG II Mechanical Passthrough by Jeong Hoon ᠌

Revainrating 5 out of 5

The right product for me, there were no problems.

I must say right away that in general, the keyboard left a positive impression on me and now it shares the first place with SS Apex Pro in my list. The key travel is very cool. It is very soft, with a little resistance at the very beginning, without a click, then the key is pressed, as it were, on its own. This is the merit of the ROG RX Red switches with a hollow quad base (there is also a Blue version, which is louder and more force there), in which the actuation is at around 1.5 mm. Also to the merits of the switches I will attribute the uniformity of the backlight. All Cherry-type switches have a design flaw - uneven backlighting, when the top illuminates the bottom. There is no such problem here. I saw a similar performance in switches from Logitech - Romer G. But there they were just mechanical and constantly double-clicked, I hope that this will not happen here. Materials at any point are executed at the highest level. Separately, I will highlight the software. After a major overhaul of the Armory Crate software, it has become quite functional, although not without sin. This does not apply specifically to this keyboard, but rather to other products of the brand, but nevertheless, this software serves to unite the ecosystem. The problem of stability has not yet been resolved and the software sometimes forgets to boot at the start of work, sometimes it stops seeing a device or ates the firmware of devices several times. What I didn’t like: how charging is implemented: for this price, given the premium nature of the product, it would be possible to make it magnetic, or even better data-magnetic, when the connection is made through a 24-pin connector with the ability to transfer data. I bought a data-connector on Ali for 500. Here everything is tritely simple: stuck or pulled out. Well, at least USB C. Also, with a claim to premium, I want to note the lack of water / dust protection. The brand line has a TUF series, which has one, competitors also began to introduce such options, the same SS, but here there is no optics without protection. As a result: five with a minus in the Asus piggy bank.

Pros
  • 1. Soft travel keys 2. Customization. Switchable NUM is a very good idea. 3. Software, customization options 4. Quality of materials 5. Illumination uniformity. Here the Cyrillic alphabet was not deprived of light and it is visible no worse than the Latin
Cons
  • 1. NUM does not work separately. 2. Software, work stability 3. Implementation of charging 4. Lack of protection
