Good docking station half the price of new

TL;DR: Decent utility docking station with I/O that allows the laptop to function as a desktop computer. This is clearly an RMA so do not purchase this refurbished unit if you need it perfect for presentations or require an OEM power supply. EDIT: After a few days of working at home with the device, my experience has changed, but not by much. The docking station is a serviceable device that does everything that is expected of it. Of the good: positive experiences β€’ This is exactly the same dock that was provided at my work place for office use, half the price for home use β€’ Works exactly as expected, although I still need to connect a VGA port (EDIT: ethernet connection is working as expected and syncing at 1000 Mbps); If the VGA port is like my dock at work, I would expect slightly blurry/flickering output for 1920x1080, but I only have two displays for work at home β€’ EDIT: Displayports don't support resolution > 1920x1080, although that spec is > 4K. This is a bit disappointing now that I have transitioned to using a large monitor with multiple inputs where using one port for 3840 x 1080 would be preferable to using two ports for 2 x 1920 x 1080. Please note that this is most likely a limitation of the GPU/display driver in my particular laptop, not the dock's ports. β€’ A colleague in my office has the same docking station that drives three displays with a USB3 adapter and it doesn't have a single VGA port. Issues on the third display, but we don't do graphics, video, or anything else that is horribly demanding, so bottlenecks using USB3 for video display probably won't be very noticeable. β€’ Displayports support DP++, so passive adapters for DVI work like a champ, so you can easily use legacy monitors for multiple displays. In theory, cheaper passive adapters/cables will work, but I've bought active adapters from local vendors and they work fine. However, the colors look different which may be due to the occasional old mismatched monitors I have for home use and three identical newer monitors I have at work. β€’ EDIT: Displayport-to-HDMI cables work fine despite my monitor's manual saying they will win. tBad: trifles and minor complaints β€’ On superficial inspection it is obvious that the docking station was an RMA, but this in no way affects its functionality and it is not a product whose aesthetics count β€’ The included power supply was 18.5V/3.5A vs. 19.5V/3.35A shipped with the new device; However, the markings on the dock clearly indicate that both options are acceptable. The PSU mentioned is not HP branded and not UL/ETL/CSA certified, but has a CE (European Conformity) mark indicating some safety standards (as opposed to the visually similar China export mark which is completely meaningless) . β€’ Installing the laptop is a bit tricky at first, but the locking mechanism won't let you mess anything up if the mounting pins aren't installed properly. Ugly: serious claims β€’ Nothing
