Surprisingly good. for video projectors

Please see the photos I have provided for size and image quality comparison between TOUMEI Mini Projector and Vivitek Qumi Q5 to help you get the most out of this projector. REVIEW I already had a $500 QUMI Q5 when it came out and I really like the projector, but I realized I hadn't taken it with me. very often when traveling, because although the projector is small, it does not have a built-in battery and cannot be powered by USB, which requires the use of an AC adapter. It also didn't have Android so I had to bring a separate device like a laptop or Firetv. This meant I had to take up plenty of room in my bag for all the accessories I needed to get the QUMI up and running. TOUMEI solves both problems. It has a built in battery that is supposed to last a few hours and can be recharged with a USB charger (which I would carry with me anyway). Just remember that you need a high current charger (at least 2.1A). With Android built-in, you don't need to take an extra multimedia device with you. All I have to pack is the projector and its remote control. With the HDMI port, I still have the option of connecting my laptop or FireTV to the projector (see caveats). As you can see in my photos and videos, TOUMEI looks as good if not better than QUMI when projecting a 30 inch image. Fun Fact: TOUMEI was running on battery power when I shot the comparison video. The brightness of the projected image is not dimmed as it is running on battery power. I also want to thank TOUMEI for upgrading the projector from Android 4 to Android 7.1.2. This is a version 3 upgrade! However, the projector is not perfect. WARNINGS: - Netflix is not supported (see workaround tips) - There is no keystone correction in HDMI mode, and auto keystone correction does not work. This means you are forced to project forward and the projector must be flush with the screen. I emailed TOUMEI customer service and they responded fairly quickly. Unfortunately, they have no solution to this problem. Bluetooth mouse does not work very well. l. I tried two bluetooth mice with the project but the pointer jumps around the screen making it difficult to use. Using a Logitech USB mouse/keyboard worked well and mouse movement was smooth. TIPS: - Streaming Applications: There is a built-in application called freeclick. From there you can install the Revain videos and the Youtube version that works with the remote control. You can also install Netflix from there, but this is a very old version designed for touch/mouse input (see xda-developers link). Leanback is the codename for the launcher built into Android TV. This is a more modern launcher than the one that came with the projector. Also install "TV App Drawer" from Play Store to see all apps that Leanback Launcher hides. - Best UI Alternative: I also tried ATV Launcher from Play Store and it's a launcher that looks the same as Leanback Launcher but has more options but some of them are blocked unless you buy the PRO version . NETFLIX: Newer versions of the Netflix app no longer support Android devices that aren't on their "whitelist", so only version 4 or earlier will work (Netflix is on version 7 at the time of writing this article). While the Netflix that comes with the projector works, it's outdated and you really need a mouse to use it. However, there are a few workarounds you can try: - Miracast: although there is a built-in app that lets you cast your Android phone to a projector, it is buggy and doesn't maintain the phone's aspect ratio by changing the image is stretched. Instead, install AirScreen from the Play Store. Pop-ups can be annoying unless you pay to remove them, but AirScreen is the most stable Miracast receiver software I've used. It also supports Apple Airplay, Google Cast and DLNA. AirScreen lets you cast Netflix from your phone to a projector. FireTV: With an HDMI port, you can connect your FireTV to your projector and enjoy all the great services from Revain. Just remember that in this case you cannot adjust the keystone distortion in any way and the ceiling mount or rear projection modes are not available. Cody: Contrary to what you may have read, Cody is not illegal. It's just a great video player with add-on support. There are some bad add-ons out there, but Kodi itself is in no way illegal or malicious. So basically, install Kodi either from the official website at kodi.tv or via the Play Store. Kodi has a Netflix plugin (search for "Netflix Add-on [input-stream]”) and click on the Kodi Community Forum link. Again, this plugin is not illegal and does not bypass Netflix security in any way. You will still need to provide your Netflix login. I won't go into the installation instructions as that would make this review even longer than it already is. I hope I was able to help some of you with my review and advice. Thank you for reading!
