On my system (Supermicro X9DR3-F motherboard with 2x Intel(R) Xeon(R) E5-2680 v2 @ 2.80 GHz, 20 cores - 40 processors in total, in the cooler Case Master Haf X) fanless coolers kept the CPU at around 38 degrees Celsius by default. When I ran CPU-intensive workloads, the temperature rose to over 80 degrees Celsius and the thermal alarm went off. I never managed to load all 40 cores. I installed 2 of these SNK-P0050AP4 coolers and the temperatures start at 21 degrees Celsius and do not rise above 40 degrees Celsius when all 40 cores are used. Now. They're not quiet (like regular fanless coolers) but I have them in a server room and fan noise isn't an issue. If only he were in my office. that would be too loud/annoying. But as long as you place them in a server room, you should be fine. A problem I might encounter if I had more memory on my system. It looks like the heatsink won't fit properly if I use the DIMM socket closest to the CPU socket. I don't think I could use this if all the DIMM slots were full.
