For various reasons we recently bought this in addition to the Guava Family Lotus Travel Cot (which we have owned for over 3 years) so I can compare the two. They are actually quite similar and I think they are both very good products. But there are some notable differences. Thought I would compare for those of you unsure which one best suits your needs. ASSEMBLING AND DISASSEMBLING: BabyBjorn is very easy to assemble and disassemble (15 seconds). Lotus isn't that bad, but not even close. It's the difference between simply opening the frame, which locks automatically, and taking a little more thought to open it and then manipulate each leg individually. Putting the mattress and sheet on top of the BabyBjorn is a little easier (although to be honest, it's a bit of a hassle with both). Stacking the lotus is definitely more difficult: you have to match two moon symbols and two star symbols to make sure you stack it right etc. to fully stack it. WINNER: BABYBJORNSIZE WHEN OPEN: Total area and mattress dimensions are very similar. Lotus: Outer 45"L x 32"W x 25"H Mattress 42"L x 24"W BabyBjorn: Outer 44"L x 32"W x 24"H; Mattress 41"L x 23.5"W. BabyBjorn's legs are tilted at a slightly larger angle, making the top opening smaller and the interior space a little cramped. They're both good for sleeping, but the Lotus is more for play. WINNER: FOLDED LOTUS SIZE/WEIGHT: Both weigh 13 pounds, but the Lotus folds much smaller, forming a rectangle (23"L x 12"H x 8"W) that can be carried like a backpack. In comparison, only the BabyBjorn folds in half and should therefore be carried as a small suitcase or large briefcase (19"H x 23.5"W x 5.5"W). Instead of using it primarily at home and only traveling with it occasionally), that would be a really good reason to choose Lotus WINNER: LOTUS MATTRESS: The BabyBjorn mattress is slightly thicker and softer, and also feels flatter on the floor for me WINNER: BABYBJOR FOR CHILD ACCESS: Lotus has a zippered door through which both a child and an adult can climb; BabyBjorn not breast to put him to sleep. With my second child this was not a problem but when you have a child like my first then that is reason enough to choose Lotus. WINNER : LOTUSBUILD QUALITY: The Bjorn appears to be made from higher quality materials and feels more durable. Lotus legs sometimes bend a bit, making the crib difficult to fold. Also, the Lotus's legs have padding (to prevent abrasions when folding?) attached to the legs with some sort of adhesive that's starting to peel off at my crib. I haven't washed the Bjรถrn fabric yet, but when I washed the Lotus fabric for the first time, the small pieces of plastic that connect to the legs and are sewn onto the Lotus fabric opened up in several places in the washing machine caught in the mesh, which annoys me every time I look at them. WINNER: BABYBJORN STABILITY: Rocking the two frames after setting up the cradle makes BabyBjorn feel a little more stable (probably because the legs are at a greater angle). We've never had a problem with our kid tipping over the Lotus, but he's a pretty quiet kid. Perhaps this could be a factor if you have a Hellion. WINNER: BABYBJORNTOXICITY: Two cots are made from the same materials: polyester outer fabric and mesh and flame retardant polyurethane foam mattress. Lotus is free from flame retardants, PVC, lead, phthalates, formaldehyde and heavy metals (e.g. cadmium, arsenic, mercury). Bjรถrn is Oeko-Tex certified. The bottom line is that they are both chemical free (especially compared to other manufacturers who use flame retardants in their foams) but I personally prefer the Oeko-Tex certification as they are third party tested and test a wider spectrum. pollutants. WINNER: BABYBJORN PRIZE/VALUE: BabyBjorn is slightly more expensive. But it also includes a sheet (and an organic, very soft one) that Lotus doesn't have. Even without the blade difference, I would personally find the price difference justified by the excellent build quality of the Bjรถrn. WINNER: TIEBASSINET EXPANSION: Lotus converts into a carrycot (with purchase of separate carrycot conversion kit); BabyBjorn - no. For Lotus they use the same frame but replace the cot's fabric and mattress with modified bassinet versions (the smaller bassinet mattress is hung from the frame instead of lying on the floor). We used the cradle with baby #2 for the first 6 months and loved it. It was easy and convenient to take with you on the road or when traveling. WINNER: LOTUSBOTTOM LINE: Both great cribs. I personally prefer the BabyBjorn somewhat (at least for the way we use it - mostly at home) due to its higher build quality, easier assembly and disassembly, thicker mattress and Oeko-Tex certification. The trade-offs HOWEVER are a larger folded size, a bit cramped interior space, no zippered door, slightly higher price point and no bassinet option. If you travel/fly a lot with your cot, assume that you will use the zip door regularly (e.g. to soothe/put your baby to sleep) and/or have not done so yet. If you have a separate baby basket for newborns, Lotus might be the best choice for you! Good luck finding the best for your family!
