Great for portraits against deep black

I needed a cheap black background for a project I'm working on; I had a really nice thick black muslin backdrop a few years back when I was working more studio style, but over the years I've sold all that gear. This background is made of a fabric that is significantly better than a black sheet. I would find it in a big store, but it's not as good as the high quality thick muslin backdrop you can buy at a photo store. It hasn't rubbed, remains relatively smooth after washing and drying, and the rod pocket is sewn on nicely. It won't last forever, and it's not as jet black or smooth as if you paid triple the price. Price. but for the price the price-performance ratio is great. Also note that lighting matters if you want a true black background in your images or videos. In the photo that accompanies this review (that's me, selfie!), I just grabbed a big box of $10 LED work lights and attached them to the ladder to the left of the camera. I then attach a magnetic flashlight to the left side of my head (right, not the camera) and tape another flashlight to the ceiling pointing directly at my head to lighten my hair a bit. best I could do, but I installed the whole thing (along with four hardware clips holding this screen to a joist in my basement) in about 10 minutes using stuff I had lying around. Works great for photos or videos as long as I don't need to freeze motion! (I would use external flashes and remotes for this.)

Pros
  • good stuff
Cons
  • I don't remember but there was something
