Review on Cable Matters 2-Outlet Surge Protector with 4.8A 4-Port USB Charger, Tablet Holder Included by Chris Doe

Revainrating 5 out of 5

Great desktop or cabinet surge protector for USB charging

Exactly what I needed. I have two phones, a bluetooth headset and a tablet. I wanted something with enough amps on the ports to drive all of my gear. It does the job. The surge protector is for the bedside table, so I only need the lamp plug. There is another model that doesn't have the USB ports on the top, but I wanted the ports to be on the side. This version also has a higher current rating than the plug-up model. The slot is handy for accommodating my phone or tablet, but a downside (not a manufacturer issue) is that the cable bends when the phone is placed vertically, which can lead to fraying, which is common with USB cables is the case near connectors. I just put the phone on its side. It amazes me that manufacturers of larger surge protectors with more 120V outlets only fit 2 USB ports and often don't even bother to make them 2.1a ports. Thank you Cable Matters for recognizing that people have more than two USB devices in their lives.

Pros
  • Great for me
Cons
  • Good but not great
