Not easy to install but ultimately a good pet door

are NOT easy to install AND you will need a jigsaw AND a hacksaw (or be prepared to buy the right screws for your door). It took my brother 2 1/2 hours to install this for me (with a little help from me) and he's not great with projects. Problems: 1) The screws are too long in case you have a very thick door. I don't have a hacksaw so it was a huge waste of time. 2) There are 4 plastic inserts that fit on the sides of the inner perimeter and these also need to be trimmed (do some math here). They are plastic and not easy to cut. 3) While we were trying to install two sides to the door and screw in the holes and on the other side and in the nut you can't hold on to, we forgot to make sure those inner plastic pieces lined up too. To the right. It's not, so we had to unbolt everything and plug it back in. The photos show that these side panels do not fit perfectly, although they are better "tucked in". I don't think this is a big problem, mainly cosmetic but an additional problem. 4) No spare parts! We dropped a tiny nut and struggled to find it! 5) As mentioned before, THERE IS NO PATTERN. Gluing a door to your door to trace the hole and drill holes is doable, but it's silly! Will another piece of paper break the bank? (But I'll add that it's a very decent price for this door.) I've installed dog doors myself at least twice and it's been more difficult. It's difficult IMHO. But once it's installed and leveled, it's a good door. I like that it has a hard plastic valve so no worries about warping or sticking. I love that it has a retractable locking panel that helps with weather issues AND lets my pets see when it's not open for them. My dog still scares her. Not even biscuits calm her down. Although I'm sure she will get it. Result? More difficult to install than necessary but a good door at a good price.
