Our JRT, who flatly dislikes being a house dog because she isn't missing anything, has a 20 x 30 aviary with 3 different kennels that she can use depending on the weather to keep her comfortable. She has a very thick coat, and to be honest, no matter how we pack a small house, she doesn't need extra heating. We have very, very mild winters here. BUT we like to give her the choice, so we put this heater in a big IGLOO she has, which we also put some red cedar in (for fleas and the like) and wheat straw. ** Cedar wood and straw do not affect the heating pad. We believe that the weight is not enough to warm the pillow. She doesn't use a pillow very often, but sometimes she really likes it, so we're totally glad she has that **extra support when needed! And yes, she's probably the most spoiled little 18 pound hound you'll ever see! Rzhunimagu! But who cares! We love her very much and want her to always be comfortable, even when she has to be outside so she can take care of all the animals in the stable! She's the boss! Hahaha! As for the pad itself, it works great! **We drilled a 3 and a quarter hole in the kennel so we could thread the cord through. Which was more than enough. **We also moved the house to the fence because she gnaws on EVERYTHING we put in the kennel and isn't looked after 24 hours a day. ** We strongly encourage you to do the same if you can! Despite the fact that the cord is wrapped with wire (in the form of a spiral, like an elongated tight-fitting one, only smaller), a determined pet can still chew it. Especially bored, hyperactive, chasing, mischievous or stubborn dogs. Our Lucy just loves to play with all kinds of toys and can't tell the difference between chew toys and funky rubber shoelaces! For her, everything in the children's room is hers! Who is back on track! **We love the mat and totally recommend this pet warmer! ** Just like snuggling with littermates - it runs on radiant heat heated only by pressure, saving electricity when pet is not in use. ** Works just like the bird warmers we use for our parrots! ;) *** Oh, and as a precaution, your pet should have a way to get off the heater when it needs to, maybe to cool off a bit or attend to their needs. I hope our review is helpful!
