Review on Kinetic Kurt Road Machine Control by Greg Anderson

Revainrating 1 out of 5

The product is misleading, read before you buy.

The app and electronic controls for this device are so bad they make it almost unusable. Therefore, product claims are misleading. Carefully! On the plus side, this product is mechanically robust. My experience is very consistent with what others are saying and with reviews on the web. However, this advantage is completely overshadowed by the almost useless electronic control. To understand this, look at other app reviews, e.g. B. those on Google Play. Here's my experience: First, there's no way to make the resistance harder or lighter. Yes, you heard right. This is a resistance trainer that cannot be adjusted. Kinetik support seems to think it's a feature and you just want their fancy modes like ERG. Second, fancy modes don't work. I've tried a few rides in the app and the supposed automatic resistance adjustment just doesn't work. For example, in a recent trial, resistance started very lightly. I shifted into the heaviest gears to get some sort of workout (and the machine spins so fast it makes the noise my wife complains about). The ride profile shows the workout getting harder and lighter, interval style, but nothing happens. Then, about halfway through the ride, the resistance suddenly sets in. It's going to be tough but doable, so I downshift and it behaves like a reasonable tear resistance trainer. But it still doesn't go up and down at intervals. Third, they advertise that the controller works with ANT. Apparently true, but very misleading. The real part is that the Garmin device can read speed and power from the device. The wrong part is that if you use Garmin to set up the device, it doesn't work. If you press to increase resistance, the device goes to maximum resistance and becomes almost uncontrollable. If you click on a smaller resistor, it becomes zero. I asked support about it and they said they are aware of the issue and have no plans to make it compatible. Fourth, the app is very buggy overall and has a lousy user interface. It takes a lot of work to understand how to do something. It might be forgivable, but the app crashes or otherwise freezes every other ride. For example, it took me three or four restarts of my phone to keep the app running long enough to complete the basic calibration. the right product for someone. But I wanted a durable and reliable electronic trainer. Don't be fooled like me. Electronically controlled complete nonsense.

Pros
  • Compatible with almost all bikes. Bikes with a rear thru-axle require a Kinetic Traxle thru-axle adapter for use with any trainer.
Cons
  • Not sure
