I installed a 4th axis on my Geckodrive controlled CNC, but Gecko only microsteps 10 per one Full step and it didn't give me enough resolution to accurately split the axis of rotation, which didn't really have enough gearing (only 3.5:1). By running this driver at 25,000 microsteps per revolution, or 125 microsteps per full step, I got enough resolution to get it working. The driver is as smooth as the geckos which were the best I've used to date. Now I can tell my 4th axis to do 360 degrees and it actually does 360 instead of the 359.5 or 360.5 that came with Geckos due to their lower resolution. Also, despite its apparent simplicity, this drive has some of the anti-resonance measures built into the Geckos. Eventually, as the speed increases, the speed range changes from microsteps to full speed. I tried one of the cheaper TBA drives or another and the motors got noisy and lost steps to the point where I thought there was something mechanically wrong with my machine and spent days checking everything, tightening and set. I wish I had bought that first.
