I was a bit confused at first about the difference between USB C and Thunderbolt and I didn't understand the drastic price difference between the products. Maybe this helps someone: USB-C refers to the shape of the connector, but it doesn't necessarily mean it's a Thunderbolt cable. In this case, Thunderbolt uses a USB-C connector, but it's much more than that. If you just need to charge your smartphone, camera, or tablet, any USB-C cable will do. If you want to connect your laptop to a docking station, 4K monitor, or anything else with that lightning bolt icon, you should spend the extra money and get one like this, or else you won't.
