No amount of brute force will separate them unless you stop the suction. I'm a 60 year old wimp and had no problem getting them apart, but it's a bit hard to explain how to do that without confusing people. But I will try it. Place the stack sideways on your knees. Hold the stack with your left hand, with the open end facing to the right. With your right hand, grasp the top edges of the open container on either side (middle of the long side) and gently pinch the sides together to allow some air to pass between the top two containers and slowly push them apart. Repeat the process for each container in the stack. If you're still having trouble, chill them in the freezer for about 10 minutes. Mine were still cold from sitting on the porch so maybe that helped. They are NOT crystal clear. They're as cloudy as Gladware, but that wasn't a problem for me. You can easily identify content without labels. But the labels are beautiful and a WHITE chalk marker is included. As with all plastic containers, be sure to carefully inspect each for cracks, chips, and scratches and secure all lids to ensure nothing is damaged before attempting any tasks with the containers. wash them all. The rim on one of mine has a chip but it doesn't interfere with the sealed lid so not worth returning the whole set. The box wasn't damaged, so it was packaged that way, but that's a chance you're taking the risk of buying cheap plastic paraphernalia. They're made of a stronger, more ribbed plastic that's not as sturdy as softer, more pliable plastics like Rubbermaid, but they look good enough to stand on a countertop. I'm sure if you hit it hard or drop something heavy like sugar on it it will likely break, but there are no kids in the house so hopefully I won't be testing that theory. I use them to organize my snack shelves so the jury isn't out on how well the lids stand up to constant use, for example, rather than occasional use for pantry storage, but they seem sturdy enough. When you first put the lids on the hinges, they're a bit tight, but they loosen up after a few uses. They close tight, but you can't move them off the shelf through the valves. They will open up. I was concerned older people in the house would have trouble using them, but the lids are easy to remove and while you adjust the padding, they close just as easily. They didn't have any major problems. The packaging says they can be washed in the dishwasher, but I hand washed them. No matter how much you spend on plastic utensils, sooner or later the dishwasher will break the seal. Gaskets are easily removed with the tip of a butter knife, so you don't have to worry about water build-up. Just be careful not to damage them. I quickly dried them with a paper towel and then let them air dry for about an hour and they were ready to go. Now the important thing. No matter how many measurements they give you, it's hard to judge how many will fit in them when you order online. So here's what I put in them. Large containers fit: 8 oz. Bags of Cheese Puffs, Pork Skins and Chips8 Club Crackers or Townhouse Crackers sleeves are perfect Saltine Crackers sleeves are slightly longer so you need to remove them from the sleeves. I took 5 crackers out of each case to allow them to fold neatly. 5 sleeves plus loose crackers will fit. 16 oz. Hanoverian pretzel for the whole family 20 packets of sandwich-size microwave popcorn 6 sandwich-size croissants 10 regular hamburger buns 1 loaf of Pepperidge Farms Raisin Bread and 4 English Muffins 12 Entenmanns Soft'eesBread Donuts are a little tougher, but my OCD wouldn't It's not allowed to have one to use another container. Also, plastic bread bins cost more than $20.00 each. A loaf of bread will fit if you lay a row across the floor while standing, then place 2 stacks of 3 next to each other on top. I'm sure 5 pounds. Sugar or flour will do, but I need to buy more before I get to my pantry. Small containers fit: 1 lb 4 oz. Family Size Dbl Stuff Oreos + 314.5 oz. 8 ounce Lifesavers2 bag. 8.5 ounce pet cracker packets. Pack of Cracker Jacks 10 Packs of Lance Peanut Butter Crackers 2-6 oz. Bag Dried Apricots (in bags) Plenty of others fit in freely. I am very happy with my purchase. They look so much better on my wire shelves than all those bags and boxes. Everything I put in came out delicious and fresh, and I no longer waste money throwing away snacks that went bad because someone didn't seal the bag. As long as the lids last, they're worth their money, especially if you need a lot of containers on a budget.
