I bought these to prevent galling of stainless steel pipe threads. He's absolutely successfully sealed all the bolted connections, so I know he can do it. Also, it feels thicker than regular tape, so it can also help if your ankles aren't tight. But I can't say for sure that standard PTFE tape wouldn't give exactly the same results at a much lower cost.
