Used a short wave in the 80s. I had Solid State and Radio Shack. I think in the 80's I had 12 bands. Maybe UHF was in that mix. I was a very casual listener but thoroughly enjoyed shortwave. This radio works on 10 bands. My "cheap" RadioShack radio from the '80s was over $100 back then, so I think that's around $300 today. This radio shows the current price for dinner and drinks or many dollar menu items. Very good radio! I'll be honest when I tell you the little speaker sounds great for its size and price. For so much money and so much portability. Wow! I really wanted to log in because I'm NOT a fan of shortwave, although I love this platform. Radios with all sorts of presets are beyond my salary or even interest. For the first 30 minutes of playing with it, I could easily reach stations 400 miles from mw. Of course, your actual position in the world can affect what you get and how clear. You can also read about antennas. So it's like any other hobby or sport. do you like darts You can buy a dartboard, set it up and have fun for $30-$50, or you can go higher quality and spend hundreds of dollars. Have fun anyway. It met and exceeded my expectations, which to me is an incredibly small amount to pay for all these bands. It uses AA batteries, two in total. Yes! Personally, I wasn't interested in rechargeable phone batteries. And it has a headphone jack, which you might need. All the interference searching for transmitters really scares my dog. Headphones solve this problem for me. If I keep being this happy I'll give some away for free. A photo shows am/fm sw 1 and 2 radios from another brand. Yes, this radio sounds better, but Tecsun is much more efficient and has really good reception. There are many music and educational programs and programs that match your views. I think it's a great deal and a good radio.
