When I first bought this watch I couldn't wait for it to arrive in the mail. It arrived in great condition, in a nice box in an envelope, but the first thing that struck me when I opened the package was the size and the chain. I still think this watch is amazing, but it's slimmer than I expected (if it was about twice the size). But the only thing that really let me down about the watch is the chain, which I could live with if it weren't so fragile. I'm too afraid of losing or breaking the watch because the chain can easily get caught and snap. It is a better chain for a necklace than a chain intended to be attached to pants. Since the pocket watch doesn't have a case, I don't even like wearing it as a necklace for fear of scratching everything. I am planning to buy a longer and stronger chain (bronzetone) so I would recommend you do that if you are planning to buy this watch. That said, I didn't know anything about mechanical watches either, so I didn't realize that you have to manually wind them every 24 hours (which is easy) to keep them running. In other words, you have to be very attached to this watch to be able to keep up with the times. Also, I really like everything else about them; the color, the innards, the fact that you never have to change the battery because you don't need one! And that's a great topic of conversation; People like to watch and add to it, so I'd say it's worth it.
