Review on πŸ“· Nikon Z6II FX-Format Black Mirrorless Camera Body by David Sanchez

First impressions of the Nikon Z6ii

The camera body turned out to be a lot lighter than my D750 BUT with the addition of lenses and an L-shaped mount it's still hefty. It would be interesting to see how heavy the new Z lenses Nikon is starting to release are. The good thing is that it has an adapter that allows you to use any Nikon lenses that I use on my other cameras. Nikon has eliminated the "Scene" and "Effects" selection, which I have fun with from time to time. In the "Image Controls" section, there are some creative settings. They added a "U3" button. There are two FN buttons that default to white balance and AF area mode. For me they are ergonomically difficult. The good news is that you can adjust many of the settings elsewhere, so I won't be using those two buttons at all. I also didn't like hitting the ISO button and turning one of the dials. Researching the forums and manual has shown that you can tweak some settings so you can press and release the ISO button and then use the command wheels, making it a lot less fiddly. The Z6ii has two memory card slots compared to the Z6. And of course, CFexpress memory cards are expensive. Some users may be satisfied with using SD card only. The camera also doesn't have a pop-up flash like the D750, which I found useful. At the time of writing this article, I cannot comment on the quality of the photos and other technical things. I need more practice and there was too much smoke here for the shots to be fun. Overall, I felt the learning curve between the D750 and the Z6ii wasn't steep. Definitely quieter with no mirror noise. If you enjoy gaming on Wi-Fi, you can download Snapbridge, which allows you to take pictures with the tap of your phone, which may come in handy. There are many great cameras and different reasons to choose one. Do your research, assess your needs. Remember that good glass can be a better investment than a new camera. And, I tell myself, the latest and greatest camera doesn't make you a good photographer. Learn, practice, practice and practice again.
